Funeral services were held at 10:30 o'clock Monday morning, June 26, at the Hunt & Sons Funeral Home in Crawfordsville for the Rev. Forrest R. Groff age 73, a former Newtown resident and Fountain County Schools superintendent, who died unexpectedly Friday afternoon, June 23, while working at the Church of the Brethren, five miles south of Crawfordsville. The Rev. Albert Harshbarger officiated. The Rev. Mr. Groff was born May 29, 1888 in Ohio, the son of Henry C. and Eva Fox Groff. He was married April 12, 1911 to Martha Peterson of Darlington. An ordained minister for 48 years, the Rev. Mr. Groff also was a school teacher for 42 years. He was a teacher in the Newtown schools from 1925 to 1927 and served as superintendent of Fountain County Schools for three years, and the Hamilton County schools for 15 years. The Rev. Mr. Groff attended Manchester College and Indiana University. In 1937, the Rotary Clubs of Lebanon, Sheridan and Anderson, sponsored him as a delegate to the International Rotary Club Convention in Nice, France. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Howard Quigle of Newtown; a grandson, Linn Quigle of Newtown; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Blaine Flory of Greenville, Ohio; and a brother, Morris Groff, Travares, Fla.
